NORMAL,Ill.- The ISU baseball team has had a pretty packed non-conference road trip. Their 18-day road trip started a little shaky with a series loss to University of Louisiana Monroe. The redbirds bounced back with a huge win against nationally ranked Arkansas.
Head Coach Steve Holm expanded how this team has improved its pitching this season, “Yeah I mean I like our guys and we set out to improve the pitching and the pitching has vastly improved overall we certainly did not give ourselves a chance to win nine out of the first ten outings from last year simply on the mound, our offense carried us much more than it has this year.”
Although their pitching is performing well to start the season, Holm says the bats have been a little sluggish to begin the year. Holm expects for that to turnaround quickly.
“We have guys who have hit that are currently not hitting that you can fully expect to not be where they’re at right now at the end of the season,” said Holm.
Last year they had a hard time getting through the weekend running out of pitching.
This year with the pitching improved and the talent the overall team has, Holm expects another good run for the redbirds this season.
The redbirds will travel to Jacksonville, Florida for a round robin tournament. The team’s home opener will be Mar. 24 as they host Northwestern.
