JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The National Football League announced their Rookies of the Month Thursday morning and a former Redbird was named the offensive winner.

Undrafted rookie James Robinson was named the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Month for his strong performances in his first three games with the Jacksonville Jaguars as their starting running back.

“Yeah, it’s pretty cool. I mean I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t,” said Robinson in a press conference on social media. “But coming in today, I didn’t think anything of it. I just kind of go about my day every day and it just came up. It was kind of a surprise to me because I didn’t know about it at all. It is cool though.”

Robinson has 43 rushes for 210 yards and 10 receptions for 129 yards. The Rockford, Ill. native has found the endzone 3 times this season, 2 of which came in Jacksonville’s 31-13 loss against the Miami Dolphins in Week 3. Jacksonville’s leading rusher has accounted for 64% of the Jaguars’ rushing yards and 100% of their rushing touchdowns. Robinson is also 2nd on the team in receiving yards.

While he’s had a strong start to the season, Robinson said he wants to get better every time he steps on the field.

“I don’t want to be surprised by anything that I do,” said Robinson. “I want to go out there and play the same or even better every time and helping out the team and just playing my role and doing my job and helping my teammates out.”

Robinson credits his teammates, the offensive line and the quarterback for his success getting past the line of scrimmage. Whether it’s a yard or a first down, he said it’s about always moving forward.

Robinson and the Jaguars are looking for their 2nd win of the season this weekend against the Cincinnati Bengals Sunday at noon.
