NORMAL, Ill.- The fourth-seeded Illinois State women’s soccer team heads to the Windy City for the Missouri Valley Conference Women’s Soccer Championship semifinal play against the number one seed Loyola Chicago Ramblers on Wednesday, April 14.
These two teams are no strangers to each other as the last time they met in postseason play was in the 2019 MVC title game in Springfield, Mo. as the Ramblers shut out the Redbirds 2-0 to win the MVC Championship. Fast forward two years later and these two squads met in the regular season at Loyola Soccer Park where the Ramblers were able to get the close edge over the Redbirds in a final score of 3-2.
For the Ramblers, they were awarded the number one seed when they finished with a 6-1-1 conference record, thus giving them a first one round bye in the MVC Soccer Championships. The last time the Ramblers were in play was on Saturday, April 3 against Evansville where they lost 1-0.
On the Redbirds side of the ball, they come into Wednesday’s matchup following a tightly contested quarterfinal win where they defeated the fifth seeded Northern Iowa in penalty kicks (3-0). The Redbirds outshot the Panthers in this matchup 23-8 with 13 of those shots being on goal.
The highly anticipated matchup between the Redbirds and the Ramblers is set for 4 pm with kickoff taking place at Loyola Soccer Park. The winner of this matchup will earn the chance to head back to the MVC Soccer Championships title game which will take place on Sunday, April 18.
