Illinois State Volleyball Continues Hot Start to Season in Linda Herman Classic

NORMAL, Ill. — Illinois State Volleyball wrapped up the three day Linda Herman Classic this weekend. The Redbirds finishing with two wins over Western Illinois and Purdue Fort Wayne and a loss to Lindenwood, their second loss of the season, leaving them with a 7-2 record.
ISU swept Western Illinois in the first match of the tournament, with a 25-17 set one, 25-13 set two, and 26-24 set three. Statistics leaders for this match included Logan Grevengoed, Abby Reck, Addisyn Pohl, and Jillian Gregory with six kills each. Gregory also led the team in aces with three, while Pohl led the team in blocks with six. Ella Craggs led the team in assists with 15, and Sammi Bunch led the team in digs with eight.
The Redbirds went on to lose their second match of the tournament to Lindenwood, 3-1. ISU won the first set 25-21, but fell in the last three by scores of 25-12, 25-20, and 25-20. Stat leaders for this match once again included Grevengoed with 11 kills and five blocks, Ruth Ziegler with one ace, Audrey Clark with 15 assists, and Bunch with 15 digs.
The Redbirds came back strong for their third and final match of the weekend, sweeping Purdue Fort Wayne with set scores of 25-19, 25-18, and 25-22. Stat leaders for this match include Ziegler with 13 kills and three aces, Oliwia Caputa with two blocks and 13 digs, and Craggs with 20 assists.
ISU will now look ahead to a trip to Rochester, Michigan to take on Marist on the 19th and Oakland on the 20th, both at 1 p.m., looking to improve their record to 9-2.
