ISU Graduate Student Dies After A Car-Pedestrian Crash

NORMAL, Ill.-Normal Police Department responded to College Avenue and Kingsley yesterday for a single vehicle versus pedestrian traffic crash.
On November 29, 2021 officers located the vehicle and provided initial care to the 23-year-old female pedestrian who sustained serious injuries. Normal Fire Department staff transported the pedestrian to an area hospital to receive critical care. The McLean County Accident Reconstruction Team responded and assisted with the investigation into the traffic crash.
The driver of the vehicle was cited for failure to stop and yield right of way to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
McLean County Coroner’s Office received notification from Carle BroMenn Medical Center that the pedestrian involved in this crash had died. The pedestrian was identified as ISU graduate student Danielle Fairchild, age 23, of Normal, Illinois. Preliminary autopsy results indicate that Fairchild died from craniocerebral injuries.
This incident remains under investigation by the Normal Police Department and the McLean County Accident Reconstruction Team.
