NORMAL, Ill. – The Center for Civic Engagement hosted the Bring it Back to Normal event last weekend to send volunteers out for community service projects.
The event allowed the CCE to partner with nine local organizations and sites like the Ecology Action Center and the Normal Parks and Recreation to give back.
“We bring service learning into the mix whereas we’re not just sending volunteers, but we’re making sure that it’s impactful service and that they are able to reflect on the work that they’re doing and why it’s important,” project organizer Keara Gray said.
The service featured different kinds of service projects ranging from environmental work to Salvation Army participation.
“I think that the volunteers took the importance of protecting our environment and keeping our environment clean and how hard that work is for the people that do that work every day,” Gray said.
Aside from Bring it Back to Normal, the CCE has September Service days and other events that volunteers can participate in.
“If you are a student who wants to get involved but doesn’t know where to start, I would say start at the CCE, start at the Center for Civic Engagement because you’re going to meet new people,” Gray said. “I feel like when you come together to do the common good there’s always going to be some good part of that that comes from that experience.”
