Special joint council meeting

Written by on October 1, 2019

Normal – The city of Bloomington held a joint meeting with Bloomington city council, Normal town council, and McLean County Board.

The meeting was held Monday night at the Illinois State University Alumni Center and was open to the public. It was made up three presentations on different programs and developments that will impact Bloomington-Normal.

Chamber of Commerce CEO Charlie Moore expands on the benefits of having joint meetings more frequently in the future.

“We have to keep this dialogue going, with very open questions,” said Moore. “So that we can address how do we work together without a division and with a circle all-around to have constant consistent messaging internally and externally.”

The presentations of different programs included the Chamber of Commerce, Convention and Visitors Bureau, and Economic Development.

Each program explained the benefits they would bring to the community of Bloomington-Normal and how they work to create a career friendly community for prospective graduates.

The three councils explored the ways they can help these programs and how they compare with neighbouring cities.

They ultimately agreed open discussion makes decision making easier and hoped to have special joint meetings more frequently in the future.
