Redbirds Struggle Against #25 Iowa in 2024 Season Debut

Iowa City, Iowa — Redbird football kicked off its 2024-25 season this past Saturday. It took on the #25 ranked Iowa Hawkeyes in Iowa. This follows its 6-5 record last season.
In the first and second quarters, both teams struggled to put up points, with the Hawkeyes scoring a field goal each quarter. The first half ended close with a 6-0 lead for Iowa heading into the second half.
The Hawkeyes hit the ground running with two passing touchdowns in the third quarter, bringing the lead to 19-0. They closed out the fourth quarter with one more passing touchdown and two rushing touchdowns. And ended the game with a 40-0 win for the Hawkeyes.
Iowa senior Cade McNamara finished the game with 251 passing yards and three passing touchdowns, along with junior running back Kaleb Johnson, who rushed for 119 yards and 2 rushing touchdowns.
The Redbirds had three quarterbacks see the field, with Tommy Rittenhouse getting most of the snaps. Rittenhouse finished the game with 119 passing yards and no touchdowns. Jake Rubley and Beckham Pellant also received a few snaps as quarterbacks in the game.
The Redbirds will travel to Alabama to face the North Alabama Lions on Saturday, September 7th, at 6 p.m.
