NORMAL, Ill.- The Illinois State women’s soccer team is back home as they are hosting the visiting Indiana State Sycamores on Saturday, March 13. This will be the Redbirds second game at Adelaide Street Field this season.

Senior forward Sarah LaFayette explains what it means to the team to finally be able to play at home.

“It’s been so long and it felt like that,” said LaFayette. “Like we were able to step on the field and have our fans in the stands and all our family and friends there, it was just something really special. We weren’t sure that was gonna happen this spring. So just having it happen right there is motivation and just being back on Adelaide Field and it being on good condition, is just awesome.”

The Redbirds also come into Saturday’s matchup following at 1-0 loss against Drake. In the game, the Redbirds outshot the Bulldogs 13-10 but were not able to capitalize on any opportunities. LaFayette expands on what went wrong for the Redbird’s offense.

“I think it just wasn’t on for us,” said LaFayette. “We had many opportunities that were right there and so close and it just came down to inches for us. Like it was an inch off or we were an inch offsides to where it didn’t happen for us and going into the next contest we can take those things and apply them.”

Saturday’s matchup will be a great contest for the Redbirds as they take on the Sycamores who also have a record of 2-1 in Missouri Valley Conference play, putting both teams in second and third in MVC rankings respectively.

LaFayette expands on what the Redbirds are doing to prepare heading into Saturday’s game.

“It’s a pretty quick turnaround from our game a couple days ago to tomorrow,” said LaFayette. “So right now we are focused on recovery, getting our mindset back on track coming from a loss, just knowing that winning is standard in our program, and just getting back on top.”

The Redbirds look to bounce back and improve their MVC record to 3-1 when they take on Indiana State on Saturday, March 13 with kickoff starting at 1pm from Adelaide Street Field
