NORMAL – After a harsh loss Wednesday night, the Redbirds came into Saturday’s game with a new mindset defensively, helping them defeat the Indiana State Sycamores 74-67.
Heading into this MVC matchup, Head Coach Dan Muller emphasized working on their defense in practice and shutting down Indiana State’s impact players such as Tyreke Key, who was held to just 8 points in the game.
“I do think it was the defensive end that was key early and throughout the whole game,” said Coach Muller. “A lot of guys spent time studying him (Tyreke Key) and the guys did a good job on him.”
The Redbird defense forced 15 turnovers and 5 blocks in the victory against the Sycamores. ISU was led by senior starters Jaycee Hillsman (23 points and 9 rebounds) and guard Zach Copeland (20 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists).
Looking ahead for the Redbirds, they will travel to Northern Iowa on Wednesday night, ISU won the first of two games against the Panthers back in December. Tip-off is at 7:00.
