NORMAL Ill.- Redbird Volleyball began their home portion of the conference schedule on Friday against Missouri State. The Redbirds were looking for their second win in MVC play but the Bears proved to be a difficult opponent.
Missouri State would topple the Redbirds in five sets in what was a back-and-forth affair.
It was the Bears who struck first taking set one by a score of 25-22. The Redbirds were quick to respond with a 25-23 victory in set two. Then Missouri State took set three 25-18 which would be the same score the Redbirds ultimately won set four by. The Bears won a hard fought fifth set by a score of 15-11.
Tamara Otene had a career outing recording 23 kills which led all scorers. Sarah Kushner was solid as well tacking on 19 of her own. The Redbirds struggled at the service line with 16 errors which proved to be costly.
“It’s a momentum killer, especially when you’re in a side out battle with a good team like Missouri State,” Kushner said.
The Redbirds will look to bounce back on Saturday against Southern Illinois at 6:00 p.m.
