NORMAL – Despite a strong performance from the Redbird Swimmers, ISU fell to Northern Iowa on Senior Day.
Overall Head Coach Caitlin Hamilton was happy with the team’s performance, but still is working with some spots that need to be filled for the MVC Championships in Mid-February.
“Overall, there are some things that we need to fine tune,” said Coach Hamilton. “But for the most part we came together as a team.”
The seven Redbird Seniors brought energy to their teammates with this being their final home meet. Seniors Kierston Farley-Sepe, Kate Tillotson, and Isabel Veliz each earned a first place finish in their event. Tillotson had an emotional win in the 50 yard freestyle, beating the next competitor by 0.14 of a second. Tillotson didn’t know what to expect coming into her last home meet, but was satisfied with how far the team has come.
“Caitlin and Josh are really building up this team,’ said Tillotson. “Overall I think their performance was really great, and I’m excited to see where this program goes.”
This is Hamilton’s first season as the Redbirds Head Coach. After a season filled with ups and downs, the team seems to be going in the right direction.
The Redbirds will travel to Evansville for another conference meet this Friday at 4 p.m.
