NORMAL, Ill.- The Illinois State men’s golf team wrapped up their fall season earlier this week at the Little Rock Intercollegiate tournament.

The Redbird men’s golf team finished in 10th place in the Little Rock Intercollegiate his past week to wrap up a strong fall season. Freshman Alex McCulla and senior Joe Hodgson were the top finishers individually, both finishing tied for 23rd shooting three over par for the tournament.

Despite not having their best showing in Little Rock, coach Ray Kralis’s team had a very successful fall season. They did not lose one head-to-head match against other Missouri Valley Conference schools and claimed the Badger Invitational title.

“When we look at what we did this fall, I feel really good about the season, we are the only valley team inside the top 100, we haven’t lost to a valley school. We have shown that on our good days we can compete with some top-ranked teams.” Said Kralis

ISU has had strong showings this fall from six different golfers this fall season. The Redbirds had three different players named Missouri Valley Conference golfers of the week, those being Alex McCulla, Joe Hodgson, and Valentin Peugnet who won the award twice himself.

“This depth of the team and strength they are displaying is tremendous. We only take five, which is one of the worst parts of coaching college golf.” Said Kralis

Illinois State will now have a few months off from tournament play and will pick things back up in February for the start of the spring season.

“A little break is healthy. I want them to come back hungry, they will continue to work out, strength and conditioning-wise and some guys will work on swing mechanics during this time.”
