Think Floyd – The Castle Theatre

Elizabeth Zoerner March 29, 2024

By: Elizabeth Zoerner

As Pink Floyd is one of my all time favorite bands, when I heard Think Floyd, a tribute band was coming to the Castle Theatre, I knew I had to be there. Though people my age are not typically Pink Floyd fans, I was so happy to see many different ages in the crowd. As I made my way up to the front, I noticed that instead of standing room, it was all chairs, which was definitely a nice change.

Going into this concert, I knew the set was going to be decently long, so it was nice to sit down for the show. In 2022 I saw Roger Waters, founding member and bassist for Pink Floyd, so I was excited to see how this would be compared to his show. The tribute band consisted of a keyboard player, a drummer, two backing vocalists, a saxophone player, two guitar players, and a bassist, which was very similar to the amount of members who would typically play live with Pink Floyd. Though there were only 4-5 official members of the band, their music was so intricate that they had to have additional people to be able to truly replicate the sound of their recorded music.

Right as Think Floyd started, I was amazed by how similar they sounded to Pink Floyd, especially the instrumentals. Both guitarists had opportunities to play David Gilmour’s guitar solos, which they did great justice to. The first act of the show was comprised of some songs from Division Bell, as well as a mix of their releases from the 70s. My favorite song from the first half was “One of These Days,” as the instrumentals and vocals were on point. After a brief intermission, they came back out to play all of “Dark Side of the Moon”, which was absolutely incredible. “Time,” the fourth song on the album, was definitely a standout moment for me, as the guitar solo was absolutely incredible.

The next song was “Great Gig in the Sky,” where one of the backing vocalists sang. This song is an extremely challenging song to sing, but she absolutely rocked it, as I had goosebumps the whole time. To end off the album, they played “Brain Damage” and “Eclipse,” and the whole crowd was singing along so loudly.

Think Floyd then did an encore, where they played three more songs. First, they played “Wish You Were Here,” which was covered beautifully. Next they played “Comfortably Numb,” where the guitarists nailed both solos. Lastly, they played “Run Like Hell,” which was such a fun and light way to end the concert.

After their set, I was lucky enough to speak with the woman who sang “Great Gig in the Sky,” and she was the sweetest. Overall, it was such an amazing show. As a massive Pink Floyd fan, they did justice to every song they played, and I will definitely see them again.
