Some Sexy Songs 4 U – Drake/PartyNextDoor
Ashton Morris March 4, 2025
Drake makes his return after a tumultuous 2024 that featured him being on the losing side (in the public eye) of one of, if not, the most influential rap rivalries ever with Kendrick Lamar. Drake’s return is a joint album created with PARTYNEXTDOOR, an R&B artist who is signed to Drake’s label, OVO. This record is an R&B record that Drake uses to sing about women, clubs, drinking, and his bachelor lifestyle. To me, this is a large downturn for Drake, and his last few albums have not been my favorite either. This record feels incredibly bloated, lazy, and overall boring. There are still good tracks, don’t get me wrong, but this is just not a great piece of work from Drake. It feels like he is on a rough run and struggling to find footing after his beef with Kendrick, as his releases last year were not great either. When speaking of Drake’s latest music, it is impossible to not mention that he released what is likely his worst song ever last year when he featured on Snowd4y’s Wah Gwan Delilah, which was a parody of Hey There, Delilah by The Plain White T’s.
The best songs on this record are buried in the middle of the album’s 21 song runtime, which equates to an hour and thirteen minutes of listening time. Drake has hits here, but that does not change the fact that they feel so lazy and uninspired. The best songs on this record are GIMME A HUG and NOKIA, but the rest of it ranges from meh to flat out rough. The worst song on this record even duels with Wah Gwan Delilah, as MEET YOUR PADRE is just something that should never be heard by the general public. Overall, this work feels like Drake is stepping in the wrong direction sonically, and I would love to see him try to find what made albums like Take Care and Views so fantastic. This record to me is a 5/10.
