RITTZ – The Castle Theatre

Gavin Montgomery April 4, 2024

By: Gavin Montgomery

Wicked fast flows, dazzling wordplay and an overzealous amount of bass that forced you to move along with the music encapsulated the concert at The Castle Theatre that was Noble Poets, GMO Skee, and Rittz. Each artist showcased their unique creative flairs and lyrical capabilities through the mic as they astounded the crowd with a fantastic atmosphere that was boosted thanks to the Castle Theater.

Noble Poets, a group that I was previously unaware of yet wowed me with their immense technical abilities, began the show by weaving in personal stories in between songs that reflect the struggles that each member had dealt with on their journey to get to where they are today. You can tell that their music is an outsource for them to deal with their pains, yet as rapper Jevon ODW Barnes stated during the show, “You can either be a victim or be victorious, and I chose to be victorious”. This notion was also very omnipresent with their music, as both artists stressed the importance of sticking to your goals and doing what you believe is right. On the other hand, the singer of the group, Caleb May, really struck me with his vocal talents and capabilities. Overall, Nobel Poets put on an extremely memorable set and were successful in amping the crowd up for the next act GMO Skee.

After a brief intermission, GMO Skee entered the stage and worked in elements of comedy and crowd engagement to create a set that was extraordinarily entertaining and memorable as well. The chemistry between both GMO Skee and his DJ Juganot Da Beast brought an extra layer of life to the set, yet they both were successful in showing off their talents in a manner that both I and the rest of the crowd seemed to love.

By the time Rittz had entered the stage, anticipation and excitement had been building for some time now, and he delivered upon that with flying colors. The Castle Theatre at this time was packed, and nearly everyone in attendance was donning some fashion of Rittz merch – making the atmosphere that much more enjoyable by the time his set began. Rittz performed with a stronghold over the audience, as with each passing song, the crowd became more and more entranced by the impeccable flows and booming bass put on by Rittz, and as did I.

Overall my experience seeing Rittz, GMO Skee, and Noble Poets was nothing short of an unforgettable and memorable time. The venue of The Castle Theatre was full of such intensity and energy, which was amplified by the three great sets that were performed before me
