Justice – Justin Bieber

On March 19th, 2021, Justin Bieber released his sixth studio album Justice and showed us a much more vulnerable side than we are used to. The 16 track album highlights Bieber’s matured vocals and expressive lyrics about his wife, Hailey Bieber, and his struggles with depression and trauma.

After giving this album a listen, it is clear that Justin has a deep appreciation for his wife and his music is heavily influenced by their relationship. Looking through the song credits, you can see that the Canadian singer helped write every single song on the album which makes the lyrics he sings even more genuine. I think that this album was a way for him to talk about what he has been through in the industry and what he has gone through with his mental health in the past years.

There has been a lot of speculation that the song “Ghost” is about his ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez. With the lyrics “I miss you more than life” and “I miss your touch on nights when I’m hollow” it’s easy to think this is a breakup song. Bieber put the rumors to rest and explained this song is about grieving someone you lost and that it was made for people who may have lost a loved one because of the pandemic. The lyrics “I know you crossed a bridge I can’t follow” show the true, deeper meaning of the song.

It’s nice to see Bieber show his emotions and be so open about what he’s been through.  Although this may not be my favorite album from him, I respect it a lot. Pretty much every track is either about his wife or his struggles which I’m sure was not easy to open up about to hundreds of millions of people. Overall, I enjoyed this album and I’m sure Justin enjoyed making it and enjoyed being able to connect with fans and people all around the world because of it.

Favorite Tracks: “Somebody”, “Unstable (Feat. The Kid LAROI)”, and “Hold on”
