Dayshift – The Castle Theatre

Sky Rodriguez September 30, 2024

This Thursday September 26th I had the opportunity to see four incredibly talented local bands/artists at The Castle Theater in Bloomington Illinois. For starters, the venue, it was my very first time there and I must say it was so nice. There was plenty of space for everyone to move around, the sound was great, and the vibes were just there. A big part of the concert experience is the crowd. Everybody was there for a good time and clearly enjoyed the music which made me enjoy it even more. And most importantly, the musicians did not disappoint. They all nailed the performances they put on.

From heavy grunge to classy jazz, and some originals mixed with covers, we got a great variety of music to listen to. There was a little something for everybody. The show opened with the band Wide Orbit. It was their first time playing together live and it was a show to remember. I loved their indie/alternative rock vibe and there were songs in that set that I would definitely add to my playlist if I had the chance. Up next was a singer named Olivia Wexler and her voice absolutely blew me away. She has such a classy and unique sound, one worth the listen for sure and a perfect fit for the indie/jazz setlist she had prepared for us. The third band to come out was Mulch. If you’re a fan of Alice In Chains you will certainly be a fan of this group of three. For so few people they sure can make a lot of noise. Shirts were coming off, mosh pits were forming, and fans were crowd surfing. Their set was so much fun. To close the show came the one and only Dayshift. Their upbeat indie-pop-alternative-rock set was a great way to end the night. They have so much fun on stage and it’s an even better time to dance and sing along in the audience.

I wasn’t quite sure what to expect going into this concert but I think I can say it exceeded my expectations. I left feeling so happy and connected to the music. Live performance is a really important aspect of music and I’m so glad I got to experience such a memorable show.  I hope I get the chance to see many more shows at The Castle Theater in the near future because that was definitely the highlight of my week. Every group is worth seeing the next time they’re in your town, or you’re in theirs.
