Chuck’s Papas- The Castle Theatre

Hannah Berge February 17, 2024

By: Hannah Berge

On Saturday, February 17th, 2024, I attended the Chuck’s Papas show at The Castle Theatre. Doors opened at 7:00 pm and the show started promptly at 7:30 pm. This concert was filled with amazing music, talented musicians, and a stunning venue. This was my first live band experience at The Castle, and it was everything I thought it would be and more.

There were 3 bands that performed, starting off with Loose. I have heard of this band before, so I was familiar with the band’s style of music. Loose has a grungy rock sound that I was excited to see come to life. The band came out in jester like costumes and brought the energy the audience needed to start the show. They were lively and engaged with the crowd. The 4-member band gave the show the best possible start. Their set even ended with a mini mosh pit right in front by the stage.

Next up was a band from Decatur, Illinois called Marble Teeth. This was my introduction to the band as I never heard of them before. They brought a unique vibe to the show as they are focused on more of a folk-rock style in their music. This 3-person band shocked me as I never really heard this kind of music before. It was very calming yet engaging. The crowd was swaying along and just enjoying their time.

And finally, the headliners Chuck’s Papas were up. The crowd was so fired up to see them. As they stepped foot onto the stage, the crowd roared with excitement. Last time I saw Chuck’s Papas was at The Coffeehouse in Uptown Normal in 2022. So, to see the band work their way up and play a famous venue like The Castle Theatre made me extremely happy. Chuck’s Papas played their classic hits, along with some new material even taking the time to let the solo artists in the band perform their solo work like Harrison Gordon and Ryan Tuohy. I can’t stress it enough this band is beyond talented. The guitar riffs and solos along with the vocals filled The Castle Theatre with the beautiful sounds of pure rock music.

Overall, I would say my favorite band of the night was Chuck’s Papas and I will definitely be attending shows at The Castle Theatre again. From the friendly staff to the colorful lights and the nostalgia feel of an old theater, there is no better place in Bloomington, Illinois than The Castle Theatre to go for a concert. The atmosphere allows the audience to connect to the band and to one another. There is no place like The Castle Theatre.
