Chappell Roan- The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess

Nayeli Wood September 2, 2024

By: Nayeli Wood

The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, an album released on September 22, 2023, by the one and only Chappell Roan. While this album was released almost a year ago it really exploded this summer with hits like Femininomenon, casual, and HOT TO GO! This album is a scream in your car, dance around your living room, fun bubbly pop album all the way through.

This album gives us a taste of unrequited love with picture you and casual that lets you pretend you’re in her shoes while you sing at the top of your lungs on your drive back from work all summer, definitely not a personal experience of mine or anything. The songs are emotional yet catchy that I just couldn’t get sick of if I tried. We also hear some straight up catchy pop anthems with HOT TO GO! and Femininomenon. If you’ve heard these songs, you know all the lyrics by now. HOT TO GO! starts with a fun electronic beat under the verse then moves into the very well-known chorus which if you’ve ever seen live you know the dance that goes along with it, which I can only describe as a modern-day YMCA. On the contrast femininomenon starts a little more reserved with an orchestral backed verse but quickly transitions into some electronic beats followed by a motorcycle sound effect to kick off the upbeat chorus, a bold choice that works perfectly.

Fun, catchy, and just super cool. This album is my favorite of the year, I don’t have a criticism for a single song on this album and I am just thoroughly impressed with pop music right now. Although Chappell Roan has been making music for years she is described as an overnight sensation, gaining so much popularity in such a short amount of time. From just a girl in a small Midwest town to playing for the biggest crowd in lollapalooza history this past august, Chappell roan has made her mark on pop music. I am very excited to see her continue her music career.
