Taylor Swift – 1989 (Taylor’s Version)

Collette Schnoor December 4, 2023

By: Collette Schnoor

Taylor Swift released her rerecording of 1989 (Taylor’s Version) on October 27th, 2023 and it was an instant favorite among millions once again. The original release was released in 2014 and had many songs that hit the charts like “Shake It Off”, “Blank Space” and “Bad Blood.” Taylor Swift has been headlining all year long with her recorded albums and The Eras Tour. She is the biggest Spotify artist of 2023 with 109.7 million monthly listeners. She is probably at the height of her career currently but she’s still going up.

As original Taylor Swift fan I really like her early music and their rereleases but I was pleasantly surprised how much I loved 1989 (Taylor’s Version). It was like going back in time to 2014. I especially like the vault tracks. Taylor Swift never fails to pull at someone’s heartstrings. She can put what you’re feeling into words very well in every one of her albums.

Since this is a release I want to focus this review on her new vault tracks. Her vault tracks are tracks that didn’t make the final cut for the original album, but they’re songs she still loves and decided to share with her fans. She never misses with the vault tracks and I think it was a smart business idea but also a cool thing for her to experience as an artist.

Her most notable vault song from 1989 (Taylor’s version) is probably “Is It Over Now?” as it hit high on charts so fast. It’s about Taylor Swift’s breakup and the boys rebound girl looking just like her. Awkward. She fills this song with very satisfying notes and rhymes that make it super catchy.

My personal favorite song on this album has to be “New Romantics” because I forgot how good it was and I love the nostalgia that comes with re-listening to it now.
