NORMAN, OKLA. – Illinois State Gymnastics lived up to expectations Thursday night when they competed in the NCAA Women’s Gymnastics Norman Regional.
Catching the most eyes in Oklahoma was freshman Jaye Mack, who tied her career best by putting up a 9.925 when she took the floor for the final event of the night. Placing second overall, she gave herself a good chance to extend her season, though she will have to wait until after Saturday’s Final Round Competition to find out.
As for Conference Gymnast of the Year, Angelica Labat, her second-straight attempt at the all-around for Regionals resulted in a score of 39.275, good for fifth overall. This included another strong performance on floor, with a score of 9.850.
As for Alana Laster, her dream freshman season concludes with a score of 9.700 on vault.
“I’m very proud of Angelica, Alana and Jaye,” said Head Coach Bob Conkling. “They all did so well, and all have a great shot to be back in the regionals again next year.”
Should Mack be selected to move on as an individual, she will compete in the NCAA Championships, April 14-16 in Fort Worth, Texas.
