NORMAL, Ill. — Illinois State University’s Wonsook College of Fine Arts will display events for families and residents.

The Visual Arts program and the Creative Drama Program are built into the “Saturdays for Creativity” events and will run from Sept. 9 through Oct. 8. Allison Alcorn serves as the director of the Community School for the Arts (CSA), another program designed for residents to express creative intent.

“The biggest positive is providing a way for students and the community to engage with one another,” Alcorn said.

The CSA is primarily music-based and provides local lessons. The program is designed for children and families but is subjected to all ages.

“The Community School for the Arts lessons are a great way for adults who have retired, to pick those instruments up and have something to do,” Alcorn said.

Lessons are typically taught by Illinois State upperclassmen or graduate students and are located in ISU’s Cook Hall or Old Union buildings in a 14-week block. Additionally, the program will offer sensory-friendly concerts in the spring of 2025.

“People can feel more free to vocalize, they can get up and move or they can use fidgets at the concert,” Alcorn said. “I’m hoping to find more ways to get out in the community to bring people onto campus.”
