NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State University President emailed students Friday evening to provide an update on how COVID-19 was affecting campus.
President Larry Dietz stated the University was monitoring the cases on campus and in the community. He acknowledged the growing number of cases since students have arrived to campus.
“I state the obvious when I say the number of positive COVID-19 test results received through on-campus testing is concerning,” stated Dietz.
As of August 28, 2020, ISU is reporting 512 total positive test results on campus since August 17. While the University has conducted a total of 2,451 tests and 1,939 are negative, they are facing a 24.0% positivity rate.
Dietz also stated there are 44 students isolating in on-campus housing.
In the statement, Dietz emphasized the University continues to collaborate with the Town of Normal and the McLean County Health Department to limit the spread of the virus.
The University stated they will communicate weekly with the campus regarding how they continue to approach COVID-19.
