Bloomington Parks and Recreation Office to Host Free Fall Senior Showcase

Bloomington Parks and Recreation is set to host the Fall Senior Showcase  from 10 a.m. to noon at the Miller Park Adult Center.

Adults ranging from 55 years old and up in the Bloomington-Normal area will get the chance to interact with local services devoted to them and their safety.

The goal of this event is to supply older adults with the knowledge of the resources available to them in the community.

Neal McKenry, City of Bloomington Parks and Recreation Program Manager, provided some details. 

“We try to do one every year,” McKenry said. “I know there’s other events throughout the year around the community that highlight what agencies around town do for our older adult population, and since we enjoy being a part of it and serving their needs, we feel it’s important to host one of our own at the Miller Park Adult Center.”

McKenry felt that it was important to get the word out that this event is going on.

“We provide an invitation to 80 and all older adult and senior citizen caregivers, providers, agencies, organizations, groups or whatever, we just send an invitation to anybody we can,” McKenry said. “It’s free for those organizations to sign up to showcase what they have to offer to the senior community around town and then obviously it’s free for any and all senior adults who want to check it out, it’s free for them to attend and browse around.”

There are expected to be 21 vendors at the event site, with many of them being highly sought-after organizations.

“It’s just great that we have so many organizations around town that not only work to provide these resources to the seniors of the community, but they actively care about them and feels important to help them out in any way possible,” McKenry said.

Vendors that will be at this event include the Bloomington Police Department, the Alliance for Retired Americans, Evergreen Senior Living, CIBM Bank and more.

The Miller Park Adult Center is located on the lower level of the Pavilion.
