Educators Rising Illinois and ISU will host their second annual Educator Signing Day on Monday, August 26  at 5 p.m. at ISU’s Metcalf School in the Hayden Auditorium. Students will be signing contracts committing to their future in the field of education.

Educators Rising Illinois State Coordinator Christine Schweitzer explained the importance of the event, and shed light on how the organization supports prospective educators.

“The signing of the contract is purely ceremonial,” Schweitzer said.  “The key element that we hope students walk away with is feeling recognized and celebrated.”

At the signing event, students will be able to join the Aspiring Educators Program of Illinois State, which provides professional development and essential benefits to aspiring educators.

Speaking first at the event will be Interim Dean of ISU’s College of Education Todd McLoda, who Schweitzer said will demonstrate to the students some of the benefits of participating in a professional development organization, and how ISU will support them as students and attempt to help them thrive. Schweitzer will lead the signing ceremony following Dr. McLoda’s speech.

Schweitzer claims that this signing can help future educators feel empowered and important, and help students understand the gravity of the public service they wish to pursue.

“By going into Illinois classrooms, Educators Rising gives students who have an interest in this career a shared space to learn and grow together,” Schweitzer said.  “After high School, ISU is one of our best partners.  ISU’s College of Education’s goals in teacher education strongly aligns with Educators Rising’s,”
