Illinois State Women’s Golf Secure A Podium Finish in Coyote Creek Classic Tournament

BARTONVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois State Redbirds Women’s golf team secured a third-place finish in the Coyote Creek Classic this past weekend at Coyote Creek Golf Course.

Three Redbirds individually finished inside of the top ten individually: Cynthia Lang, Reagan Kennedy and Alex Sparrow.

As a team, the Redbirds finished third, behind Idaho State and Bradley, which tied for first with a score of 929. It was only a four-stroke differential, as the Redbirds came in with a team score of 933.

Other teams that filled the rest of the top ten were Oakland (936), Lindenwood (961), Illinois-Springfield (969), Eastern Illinois (987), Prairie View A&M (997), and Evansville (1045).

Sparrow, Illinois State’s top finisher, shot a 231 over 54 holes. An 11-over 83, a birdie and eight pars, aided her tie for fourth place in the third round. Sparrow also tied for the top spot in par-three scoring with an average of 3.00. She also recorded the third-most birdies in the tournament.

Lang finished with a total score of 232, tying for sixth place overall. Her final round ended with a three-over-75, with two birdies and 12 pars. An average of 4.25 strokes on par-four holes, good enough for third-best in the field. Lang also had 32 total pars, which ranked fifth-most among the competition.

Kennedy, the senior, was the final Redbird in the tournament’s overall top ten., In the final round, an even-par round of 72 stood out as the best seen by the Redbirds on the final day. Kennedy’s final score was a 233, placing her eighth overall.

Other contributors for the Redbirds were a pair of freshmen, Cora Hirz with a total score of 237, and Xuan “Hazel” Gao, who finished with a total of 267

Senior Reagan Braker competed as an individual and finished with a total score of 264.
