Illinois State Men’s Golf Finishes Eighth at Kemper Lakes Intercollegiate

Long Grove, Ill. – Illinois State men’s golf fought through tough conditions at the Kemper Lakes Intercollegiate Tournament at Kemper Lakes golf course, finishing eighth place with a total score of 934.

ISU’s performance was highlighted by the play of Gonzalo Cuellar and Fernando Cobo Delgado, along with top finisher Max Faucquez.

The Redbirds entered the final round of the tournament in fifth place after carding a 36-hole score of 615.

Junior Max Faucquez led the Redbirds with an opening-round 2-over par 74. Faucquez recorded a three-round total of 224, tying for sixth place. His three-round score tied him for fifth-best round of the day. His performance marked his first top-10 finish of the season and the fourth of his collegiate career.

Cobo Delgado finished the tournament with a total score of 230 tying him for 21st place. Cuellar finished with a total score of 233 which tied him for 32nd.

Drake took home the title with a score of 886, followed by South Dakota with 894 and South Dakota State with 901 to round out the top three.

Belmont (908), Morehead State (924), Valpariso (929), Loyola-Chicago (933), Illinois State (934), Webster State (940), and Central Michigan (944) rounded up the top ten.

Sophomore Sam Ottwell finished the final round with a score of 84, along with two birdies and seven pars, tying for 64th in the tournament.

Gabriele Bravin carded a final-round score of 77, with three birdies and three pars, tying for 74th in the tournament. He was the non-scoring golfer on the team.

Junior Aiden Cudney carded a final-round score of 77, including three birdies and 10 pars tying for 44th in the tournament.

Freshman Rayden Tee made his impact with ten pars in the third-round and finishing tied for 68th.

Up next, the Redbirds will travel to West Lafayette, Indiana, to compete in the Purdue Fall Invitational. The tournament will start next Monday at Kampen-Cosler Golf Course on the Purdue University campus.
