Illinois State Faces Tough Competition in Upcoming Quad Meet

NORMAL, Ill. – Looking ahead to this weekend, Illinois State will head to Maryland to compete in a quad meet against host Towson, as well as Willam & Mary and Bowling Green.

Last Sunday, Towson competed against Temple University, George Washington University, University of New Hampshire, and Long Island University. The Tigers pulled off the second-place title, barely losing to George Washington by a score of 195.400 to 195.375. Senior Clara Hong earned the beam title with a 9.875, while Junior Polina Belanovski earned the vault title with a 9.900. The Tigers also took home three team event titles with a 49.150 on bars, a 48.950 on beam, and a 48.750 on vault.

William and Mary also competed in the same five-team meet last weekend, where they placed fifth but posted a season-best score of 192.850. They also earned season-best scores on vault, bars, and beam, with a 48.175, a 48.150, and a 48.425, respectively. Junior Michelle Ngo placed fourth all-around for the Tribe with a career-best 38.750 and also tied for tenth on bars with a 9.700. Freshman Melissa Gao also tied with her for the team’s best score on beam with a 9.750. Senior Sarah Wozniak tied for seventh on bars with a 9.725, while Senior Caroline Blatchford and Junior Hannah Burke had the top scores for their team on vault, both with a 9.700.

Bowling Green competed against Ball State on Sunday as well. They scored a season-best 194.775 but still fell short to the Cardinal’s 195.275. However, they did still post season-best scores on vault (48.825), beam (48.350), and floor. Junior Megan Bingham hit a personal best 39.075 in the all-around, while Freshman Kayla Shaw also hit a personal best 9.875.

The Redbirds are set to compete at 6 p.m., hoping to win their fifth consecutive meet.
