BLOOMINGTON, Ill – The Illini Cat Club will host its annual cat show on March 2-3 at the McLean County Fairgrounds.
This will be the first time the event will be held in Bloomington and this year’s theme will be March Madness.
The cat show is expected to host 150 participants. Each will be judged by eight internationally-ranked judges who inspect them on a scale based on breed type and will be evaluated on how close their appearance is to the standard model. The cat who is the closest will receive a ribbon for their victory.
Secretary of the Illini Cat Club Mary Auth provided her thoughts regarding the event.
“Even though we are a group of pedigree animal breeders and owners, we are also very much in tune with rescue cats and animal welfare,” Auth said. “The more people we have, the more opportunity we have to educate.”
Auth also stated they have partnered with Pet Central Helps who will have cats up for adoption at the event.
Throughout the event, different activities will be available to guests. Vendors filled with cat toys, treats and furniture, a stuffed animal competition and a 5-foot basketball hoop for the theme.
“There’s going to be a lot of things to do that you do not normally see at a cat show, but it is actually a lot of fun,” Auth said. “It’s a fundraiser, people can come out and see the cats, have some fun, and talk to people about the cats.”
Admission prices, as well as additional information and specific events for the show can be found on the organizations Facebook page.
