NORMAL, Ill. – The Heartland College Foundation is hosting a comedy event to raise money for support programs and scholarships for the community.
The “FunnyRaiser” will be held this Friday, Feb. 23 starting at 7 p.m. The location of this event is at the Astroth Community Education Center at Heartland Community College.
Master of the Ceremony Joe Strupek provided details of this event and the background of it. This year is Joe’s tenth as MC. His job is to introduce the comedians, keep the flow of the evening going, and to keep the audience engaged.
He said, “For a number of years, the Heartland Community College Foundation has put together the FunnyRaiser. The FunnyRaiser is an event where local amateur comedians get together to entertain the audience with jokes,” he said. “The audience gets to vote on their favorite comedian and the proceeds from that support Heartland College Foundation programs.”
The attendees will be able to download an app to donate money to whom they think is the funniest comedian.
This year, the three main programs the event is supporting are the scholarships to support working adult students, the child development lab family meal program and youth STEM experiences.
Strupek explains, “The main goal of this event is to bring awareness to the audience how Heartland Community College supports the community and students.”
Strupek elaborated about the overall plan for the show.
“The doors open at 7pm and the silent auction also starts at that time. The comedians will take the stage at 7:30.,” he said. “We have a cash bar, popcorn from Donny B’s and cookies for intermission. At 9:00, the winners will be announced.”
