NORMAL- Redbird Track & Field standout Grace Beattie was named Missouri Valley Conference athlete of the week following her stellar performance at the Adidas classic in Nebraska.
At Nebraska, Beattie recorded a season best in the mile with a time of 4:52.32. For the Woodstock Senior, confidence was key.
“I just mentally told myself that I know how to do it and that I don’t have to do anything different than what I’ve done before,” said Beattie. “I looked at my coach about fifteen minutes before the gun went off and said, “I’m going to go out and win this whatever it takes.””
That time was good for another first place finish, which something Beattie has been accustomed to. This season she has won every race she has finished.
Beattie’s first place finish was one of four event winners for the Redbird’s who would tie for second at the meet. As indoor season intensifies, the reigning conference champion Redbirds are starting to come into form at the right time.
“It was really exciting to see us compete against a Big Ten school,” said Beattie. “It was really exciting to see us perform early because it’s going to make conference that much more fun.”
The task for the Redbirds this weekend is a return to South Bend for the Meyo Invite. This will be the second of three meets at Notre Dame for the Redbirds.
The Meyo Invite will begin at 10:00 A.M. Friday and continue on Saturday.
