Fisher III said his decision largely comes from the uncertainties amid the covid-19 pandemic and trying to keep his family safe.
In 30 games the Redbirds during the 2019-2020 season, Fisher III averaged 9.6 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. He also stepped up defensively with 20 steals and 8 blocks. Over his last 14 games, he averaged 12.1 points and 6.9 rebounds per game, shooting 46% from the field and 45% from three-point range. He also shot 78% from the free-throw line.
“While it is tough to learn about Keith’s final decision so close to the season, I fully support his decision to opt-out due to his concerns,” said Coach Muller. “We will really miss Keith and wish him and his family nothing but the best going forward.”
The Redbirds are set up open up the season on Nov. 25 in the state of Nebraska. Their non-conference schedule has yet to be finalized.
