NORMAL, Ill. – Normal Police responded to reports of gunshots in the 100-block of Kennebeck Court on April 3. No one was hurt, but proof of gunshots was discovered, and they are now investigating a case of aggravated discharge of a firearm.

According to Public Information Officer Brad Park, the success of investigations like this one can depend on many factors.

“We obviously want to get it solved as quickly as possible; get the people who are doing that off the street,” Park said. “It just depends on the type of witnesses and information that we can gather. We can sometimes make an arrest the day of the incident or the day after, […] but we’ve also had cases where it goes a little bit longer. It takes time.”

Police interviewed several witnesses and have searched for potential video evidence, but Park could not disclose much due to the ongoing nature of the investigation.

“Obviously our main goal is to make sure there are no victims, no one has been struck by gunfire,” Park said. “The first thing we do is start speaking with witnesses.”

Park also stressed the importance of the department’s anonymous tipline, which can be reached at 309-454-9535.

In the past week, the Normal Police have also responded to six DUIs, 36 domestic incidents, 29 traffic accidents, seven cases of retail theft and several other incidents.

As for the Bloomington Police, they responded to one case of aggravated battery, several DUIs, one investigation of a dead body and several other incidents.
