Bloomington City Council meeting: Local Business tax, water main and gutter replacements

Written by on October 10, 2023

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Bloomington City Council held their first meeting of the month on October 9.

All items present on the consent agenda passed unanimously except for item 7L, which had been removed for discussion. The proposed item moved to process all Local Business Tax filings electronically.

To prevent the city from absorbing the cost of processing, they would be allowed to apply a fee to businesses worth 2.5% of the transaction. After a lengthy question and answer session, council members elected to pass the amendment.

Director of the Department of Operations and Engineering Services Kevin Kothe dominated the regular agenda with all four items of business relating to the department.

Most of the discussion focused on the Combined Sewer Overflow Elimination and Water Main Replacement Project and Sidewalk, Curb and Gutter Replacement Program. Kothe’s time presenting was beneficial as all items were approved.

Before adjournment, City Manager Tim Gleason highlighted upcoming local events:
• October 11: Downtown for Everyone’s Open House
• October 13: Christian group, Mercy Me’s concert
• October 14: Bobzbay Books’ author convention
• October 27: Bloomington’s trick-or-treating
• October 28: Howl at the Market’s spooky scavenger hunt

Bloomington’s next council meeting will be held on October 23 at 6 p.m.
