Bloomington city council: Recognition for a firefighter and additional services to GrahamSpencer LCC

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Bloomington City Council held its final meeting of the month on Feb. 26 at the government center boardroom.

Mayor Mboka Mwilambwe recognized firefighter Donovan McIntire for completing one year of a probationary period for the Bloomington Fire Department to start the meeting.

“Donovan said he always wanted to have an active career that would keep him busy and allow him to make an impact on the world,” Fire Chief Cory Matheny said. “I look forward to the next chapter in his career and a great future.”

Public hearings were held next. Seven Bloomington residents were given the floor for three minutes to voice their opinions on issues the board should resolve. One of the common trends was focused on the homeless community that is stationed just off Oakland Road.

“Since the last time I spoke, it has grown by four tents and there is trash everywhere,” Head of West Side Neighbors Surena Fish said. Fish spoke about this issue at the Nov. 27 council meeting as well.

Other residents took concern over hazardous potholes, a proposal to change the status of Grossinger Motors Arena and protection for growing ground from motorists.

In the consent agenda pulled number 7E after a motion by councilman Donna Boelen was proposed and passed 9 ayes to no nays.

Agenda number 7E would grant GrahamSpencer LLC the additional $55,450 to fulfill their necessity needs.

After consideration with council was discussed, the agenda was sent to motion of approval by councilmen Cody Hendricks A quick 9 ayes to no nays granted GrahamSpencer its additional loan.

City Manager gave word on upcoming spring events to conclude the meeting:

  • March 1: Shamrock and Roll – Downtown Bloomington
  • March 2: Miller Park Zoo Stampede 5k, 3k and Kids Fun Run
  • March 5: Parks and Recreation Job Fair – Grossinger Motors Arena
  • March 11-12: Annie – Bloomington Center for the Preforming Arts

The Bloomington city council will meet for their first meeting of the month on March 11 at 6 p.m.
