NORMAL, Ill.- Despite the cancellation of a full month of previously planned events to mark Earth Day, the Ecology Action Center (EAC) has shifted to online and social distancing events and activities in order to ensure that Earth Day does not go unnoticed.
Earth Day 1970 launched the modern environmental movement and resulted in landmark legislation including the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act and the Endangered Species Act.
“While much work is left to be done, the actions of those in the Bloomington-Normal community and elsewhere 50 years ago have had wide-ranging impacts in improving the environment and public health for multiple generations,” said Executive Director Michael Brown.
To celebrate the efforts of 50 years, a full day of events is scheduled and posted on the EAC website at https://ecologyactioncenter.org/earth-day-2020-live-online/.
This website will host a virtual showing of Dr. Suess’s environmental classic, The Lorax.
