Normal Public Library: making changes
Written by Madison Wilson on October 29, 2026
NORMAL, Ill. — The Normal Public Library has put out a survey for the community to participate in the creation of a new strategic plan for the public library.
This survey comes at a time when the previous strategic plan expired and a new plan needed to be created and implemented. John Fischer, the Director at Normal Public Library, discussed the need for community involvement in this process.
“As the library grows and changes, the community grows and changes,” Fischer stated. “As the community grows and changes, we want to change where we focus our services, our spaces, and our collections to match that.”
Fischer continued to discuss how people who fill out the survey can see the changes made based on their feedback in the survey.
“So we will have a final presentation, which shares the results. We always post these and folks are welcome to attend. I would love it if the community attended that,” Fischer said.
As the survey remains open, Fischer discussed where to find the survey and the deadline for filling the survey out.
“Everyone who reads or hears this story, I would hope would take the survey. All you have to do is go to normalpl.org. There’s a link to the survey, and that survey is going to be open until November 20,” Fischer stated.
John Fischer also had some final thoughts on why people in the Bloomington-Normal area should participate in this survey.
“I would want them to know that their opinion matters, and I would strongly encourage them to take our survey. It really is a brief survey. I would also say that we are always listening and we would never turn away a suggestion from a community member.”
