Redbird Women’s Basketball Looks to Stay Hot on the Road at Valparaiso

NORMAL, Ill. — Illinois State Redbirds women’s basketball will hit the road this afternoon as they travel to Indiana to take on the Valparaiso Beacons women’s basketball in Missouri Valley Conference action.

Illinois State comes into the game fresh off a win over Southern Illinois. The Redbirds enter today’s contest with a 17–11 overall record and an 11–6 mark in MVC play.

As for Valparaiso, the Beacons are still searching for their first win of the season, sitting at 0–28 overall and 0–17 in conference play.

Leading the way for Illinois State this season is sophomore forward Doneelah Washington. Washington leads the team in both scoring and rebounding, averaging 17 points and 9 rebounds per game, nearly a double-double on the year.

For Valparaiso, senior guard Fiona Connolly leads the team in scoring at 12 points per game.

Illinois State and Valparaiso will meet for the 22nd time in program history this afternoon. The Redbirds lead the all-time series 17–4 and have won the last nine meetings between the two programs, including 14 of the last 16 matchups overall.

Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. at the Athletics-Recreation Center in Valparaiso, Indiana.
