BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The City of Bloomington’s Parks & Recreation Department hosted its annual job fair on Wednesday at the Grossinger Motors Arena.

Applicants ages 15 and older had the opportunity to attend the job fair, learn about job responsibilities and explore ways to earn income.

The City of Bloomington’s Parks and Recreation Department is looking to fill positions for lifeguards, swim instructors, seasonal laborers, arena workers, youth sports instructors and camp counselors, among other roles highlighted at the job fair.

Caroline Hirschauer, a city board member, said the job fair is an annual event that has taken place for several years and that the city will continue bringing job opportunities to the Bloomington area for those interested in working locally.

“It’s a great experience for anyone looking for a job in the area,” Hirschauer said.

Bloomington Parks and Recreation and the City of Bloomington’s Arts and Recreation Department were the main representatives of the job fair.

Hirschauer explained what applicants expected from them.

“There’ll be a ton of tables with staff members there looking to just answer any questions that you may have, maybe just getting a vibe for the job,” Hirschauer said. “They’ll get that face-to-face interaction with staff.”

Applicants attended with the goal of exploring which available positions interested them most and left feeling confident in their ability to pursue opportunities and encourage others to seek jobs to earn additional income.

Hirschauer reflected on the inspiration behind creating the job fair and said she hopes to see increased attendance in the future as the event continues making an impact on the Bloomington community.

“This is a great opportunity. For not only people to get a job, but we hope people leave feeling inspired and feeling more informed,” Hirschauer said. “Not only will people learn about jobs, but this is a great way to learn about what’s going on in the community.”
