NORMAL, Ill. -Illinois State Gymnastics hosted a meet against Northern Illinois Monday night ending in an exciting 192.700-192.650 win for the Redbirds. The Redbirds were trailing all meet until the final rotation on floor.

To begin the meet the Redbirds started on bars where sophomore Madyson Baucom scored a 9.725 earning herself a third place finish. Senior Julia Heiner tied for fourth with a score of 9.700. Illinois State finished with a score of 47.800 on bars for their first rotation.

Following bars was vault where freshman Sammie Wolf shined for a first place tie with a score of 9.800 while freshman Savannah Ray tied for fourth place with a score of 9.700. Redbirds posted a 48.075 for vault closely behind the Huskies at 48.400.

After the halfway point for the meet it was time for Sophomore Ally Lau who has really made her presence known to show off her skills on beam. Lau certainly made it entertaining where she scored a career high 9.900 which gave her the win. That score was the highest individual score for a Redbird this season and is the first 9.900 or better in the last year. Additionally, it was a career high best for Lau. With Lau’s excellent performance on beam it pushed Illinois State a little closer to the Huskies with the final score on beam being 48.175.

For the final rotation, trailing the Huskies by over half a point, junior Jaly Jones took home a win with a score of 9.875, her season best. Freshman Mia LeBlanc and Junior Mia Oh tied for second earning them both a 9.750 which was just the push the Redbirds needed to beat the Huskies.

The season is coming to an end shortly as Redbird Gymnastics will compete against Eastern Michigan and Western Michigan in a tri meet on Friday at five. Then on March 15th another tri meet against Pittsburgh and West Virginia before Illinois State is set to host the MIC Championship.
