Redbird Gymnastics Cannot Hang On To Mid-Meet Lead, Leading To Loss Against Southeast Missouri State

NORMAL, Ill. – Redbird Gymnastics faced Southeast Missouri State for the third time this season in Missouri Valley Conference competition on Saturday. The meet took place at CEFCU Arena, with the Redhawks taking the win by a score of 194.150 to 192.475.
Illinois State followed the Olympic order, starting on vault where they scored a 48.625. Sophomores Savannah Ray and Sammie Wolff both scored 9.750 on the event, tying for second place. Senior Mia Oh posted a score of 9.725, tying for sixth place. Junior Madyson Baucom, Senior Leah Davis and Senior Jaly Jones also had top ten vault scores of 9.700.
The ‘Birds then moved to bars where they posted a 48.300. Baucom won the event title with a 9.700. Freshman Jercy Koliego and Junior Jada Beswick tied for second, each with a score of 9.675. Ray took home the fifth place title with a score of 9.650 and Sophomore Mia LeBlanc came in sixth with a score of 9.600.
ISU led the Redhawks after the first two events, but could not hang on to it as they had to count two falls on beam, leading to a score of 46.875 on the event. Jones took fifth with a 9.700, followed by Senior Courtney Woods in sixth with a score of 9.650.
Floor was the Redbirds’ final event of the night, where they scored a 48.675. Davis and Jones both scored 9.800, tying for second, while Oh posted a 9.775, placing fifth.
Illinois State Gymnastics will now look forward to their next meet at 6 p.m. on February 23 in Horton Field House, where they will take on the Huskies of Northern Illinois University.
