Teen girl injured in shooting at off-campus apartment

NORMAL, Ill. – Normal Police are investigating an overnight shooting at an off-campus apartment complex near Illinois State University.

Officers responded around 1 a.m. Saturday to reports of shots fired at The Flats at ISU, located at 709 S. Main St. A 16-year-old girl was found with a gunshot wound and transported to a local hospital. Authorities say she is in stable condition.

An ISU Emergency Alert was issued at 1:03 a.m., advising people to avoid the area due to reports of gunfire. A second alert sent at 2:33 a.m. informed residents that the scene had been cleared.

University police said the victim is not affiliated with the university.

The scene was secured by Normal Police with assistance from Bloomington Police, Illinois State Police, the McLean County Sheriff’s Department and Illinois State University Police.
