I Barely Know Her- Sombr Album Review

Rosie Chappell February 2, 2026

Shane Boose, better known as Sombr, is a singer-songwriter and producer from New York City.
He currently has 56.5 million monthly listeners on Spotify. Sombr’s new album, I Barely Know
Her, released on August 22, 2025. The album contains 10 tracks and has a run time of 37
minutes.
I Barely Know Her combines soft rock, indie pop, and elements of folk to create the sound for
this album. The album revolves around themes of romantic confusion, swift connections, and
the strange sensation of knowing someone enough to miss them, but not enough to understand
them. The album’s tone is what really caught my eye. While the many lyrics are heartbreaking,
the songs often feel observational or resigned, like someone processing their feelings after all is
said and done.
My favorite track off the album is definitely “12 to 12.” The instrumental is more upbeat, a rhythm
that you can easily bob your head along to. The song is about an ex and that even though the
two people are broken up, one still has feelings for that person and they wonder if the other
thinks about them too. This song is so catchy and it’s one you can really listen to anytime.
Another good track is “Under the Mat.” This is a slower song compared to “12 to 12.” The song
is about tucking away feelings, sweeping them “under the mat” you could say. Sombr delivers
the lyrics in such a way that shows knowing something hurts, knowing it matters, and still
choosing to minimize it.
Overall, I Barely Know Her is a soft, heartbreaking album that doesn’t try to impress, but instead
invites you in. If you’re into indie pop, emotionally distant vocals, and songs that feel like
relatable unfinished thoughts, then I Barely Know Her is worth the listen!
