Former Illinois State Representative Dan Brady is running for Bloomington Mayor

Written by on March 17, 2025

BLOOMINGTON, Ill.- Former state Rep. Dan Brady is running for Bloomington Mayor with the community in mind.

Brady’s campaign for mayor includes increasing public safety, updating infrastructure, economic development and supporting businesses. His contenders are Cody Hendricks and current Bloomington Mayor Mboka Mwilambwe.

Brady explained how he will implement ways to bring the Bloomington City Council together at a recent candidate forum held by local NPR affiliate WGLT.

“During my time as state representative… I was able to get things done by working with the majority party, crossing party lines and working together,” Brady said. “This is not partisan race; not Republican, not Democrat. So, the Bloomington City Council should be able to work together.”

With a budget that will be approximately $310 million, Brady said it is important to use money based on the city’s priority. He claimed the most important thing to focus on is infrastructure and deficit spending.

“We want to look at our infrastructure, our needs there when it comes to our sidewalks, sewer systems, roads, bridges and of course our water,” Brady said. “All are going to need more capital… but it’s going to take money; it’s going to take a mayor that’s going to be engaged fully, all the time, trying to work on that. I believe I’m that type of mayor.”

Brady calls for action on the current water crisis in Bloomington. He said he would take many steps to address the complaints of residents. He also has his sights set on the affordable housing crisis, striving to make efforts to set priorities when it comes to spending such as incentives to builders and rehabilitation of existing homes.

Brady is a native to Bloomington and has worked with past Bloomington mayors, many city council members and city managers.

The Municipal election will take place on April 1.
