NORMAL, Ill. – Normal Community football has its eyes on the prize after two impressive playoff wins.

The Ironmen won their first two playoff games vs West Chicago (41-16) and Prospect (52-49).

“The weeks of practices leading up to the games…we came out better versions of ourselves. All three phases of the game really paved the way for these games,” said Normal Community head coach Jason Drengwitz.

When asked what stood out in the first two games, Drengwitz added, “We opened the game against West Chicago by returning a kick for a touchdown. It kind of made them play behind. As for Prospect, the kids are willing to answer the bell and keep playing.”

The Ironmen’s game against Prospect was back-and-forth. As Coach Drengwitz mentioned in our interview, it was a true test, and it came down to the very last quarter.

Drengwitz was able to preview this matchup with Mt Carmel, a team from Chicago out of the Catholic League Blue Conference.

“This team is very battle-tested, a very tough conference, with great players and coaches.”

Normal Community and Mt. Carmel are quite similar in their strengths. Both teams bring great offensive and defensive fronts and are all able to produce great quarterbacks for each team.

One of the biggest players to stop for the Ironmen will be the quarterback for the Caravan, Jack Elliot, who is committed to Vanderbilt.

Normal Community offers a fan bus for the faithful willing to make the trek to Chicago.

Saturday, the Ironmen will have one of their toughest tests yet versus two-time defending IHSA 7A champions in the Mt Carmel Caravan. Normal Community will travel to Chicago to take on the Caravan on Saturday at 5 pm.
