The upcoming 2024 election from the perspective of the students

NORMAL, Ill. With the 2024 Presidential Election approaching, early voting began in the Bone Student Center on Monday, Oct. 21. Some of the students exiting the polls after the first week of early voting chose to voice their opinions on the ballots they cast.

Junior therapeutic recreation major Nikale Gandy shared why this election matters to her.

‘This year’s election is very important to vote in, especially because so many things are going on in the world today,” Gandy said. “We need a president in office that cares about women and wants the best for All Americans.”

Junior elementary education major Nia Franklin agreed that voting for a president who cares about women is necessary in today’s political climate.

“Voting in this year’s election is really important because as a woman, female reproductive rights play a huge part in this year’s election, so everyone needs to do the right thing and come out to vote,” Franklin said. 

Both Students said the most important issues they voted on were female reproductive rights and overall freedom. They also both expressed fears about the potential of Project 2025 should former President Donald Trump return to office.

Early Voting will continue Monday-Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. until November 1st in the Bone Student Center. Anyone not yet registered to vote can do same-day registration so long as they can provide two forms of identification. One form must also have proof of residency.
