BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Becca Wagner was hired as the new Sports Director for the YMCA as of Feb. 26.
Wagner has experience with organizing NCAA tournaments for sports such as baseball, soccer, softball, track and a variety of others. She helped with her first tournament with her father in 2005.
Wagner explained how sports were an activity that guided Wagner throughout her life.
“Sports is something that has always been apart of my life. I remember getting introduced to them at a young age from my dad,” Wagner said.
Wagner is an alum from Illinois Wesleyan University and played on the softball team during her years there. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. However, the road has not always been clear for Wagner as she soon realized her talents laid outside the classroom.
“I like to keep moving, so it was hard for me to teach without be apart of the action. I know I needed to make the transition back to it,” Wagner said. “In this new position I am able to still interact with kids, but still have the fun aspect to it.”
Outside of her new role, Wagner began taking courses through Illinois State University to get her Master’s Degree in sports management.
“They have a great sports management program, and the interconnectedness between Wesleyan, Heartland and ISU provides their students with resources to succeed,” Wagner said.
Wagner has fulfilled the role of sports director at the YMCA and has accepted the responsibilities. She hopes her passion for sports will carry on to others along the way.
