On Saturday February 3, 2024, I attended the Gimme Gimme Disco at The Castle Theatre in Bloomington, IL. Overall going into this show I didn’t know what to expect but coming out of the show all I can say is Gimme Gimme MORE! This event was 18+ plus and tickets were $20 (before tax). The show started at 8:30 PM with the doors opening at 8 PM. The check in process was quick and easy before I knew it, I was already standing in a by table with 6 of my friends that went with me. The Castle Theatre was stunning, with the nostalgic feel of an old theater. They have a bar for those who are 21+ offering mixed drinks, seltzers, and beer. The show started at 8:30 PM on the dot with the Guest DJ running out in a sparkly green jumpsuit excited to start the disco party. Of course, ABBA was played along with many other ‘disco feel’ hits like Stayin’ Alive by the Bee Gees, Voulez-Vous from the Mamma Mia! movie soundtrack and Play That Funky Music (White Boy) by Leif Garrett. Overall, the vibes couldn’t have been better. If you are looking for a fun, uplifting Saturday night event The Castle Theatre is the place to be. The crowd was happy, engaged and having the time of their lives. Everyone was dressed in their best disco attire, which isn’t mandatory, and the men and women ages ranged from college students like me around 18-23 to millennials to even an older crowd 55 and up. The Gimme Gimme Disco embodies the idea of having fun with your friends. Everyone was dancing, laughing, and smiling the entire time. The DJ flew in from Atlanta, Georgia and she was so full of life. She engaged with the crowd letting people come onto the stage to sing and dance but also allowed for fans to request their favorite songs provided by a QR code that was on a big screen behind her. The music was upbeat, the crowd was fully engaged, and vibes were immaculate. This was my first show at The Castle Theatre that wasn’t a live band performance, and it was nothing short of amazing. This shows the versatility of The Castle Theatre. You can see live rock bands or have a disco dance night, the choices are limitless. My friends and I enjoyed everything about the Gimme Gimme Disco from the music and crowd engagement to the venue and overall atmosphere, this is an event I would go to again. I also want to check out what other shows The Castle Theatre has to offer, the convenience of being located in downtown Bloomington, the vibe of the theater and the friendly staff, what more could you want out of a show experience. I will definitely be back again soon!
