NORMAL, Ill. – Educators Rising is a career and technical student organization. The program offers a fully aligned, standards-based curriculum and clinical experiences for students interested in pursuing a career in education.

Director of Recruitment, Retention and Student Services for the College of Education Kelli Appel said “the program supports the pathway to become a teacher.” High school students can enroll in classes early to begin their educational journey. Students are given opportunities to join clubs, participate in local chapters and travel to a state or national conference.

Illinois State University held its Educator Signing Day on September 6th to allow incoming first-year students to get involved and meet other future educators.

“It celebrates the commitment that the future teachers are making,” said Appel.

The event was designed for new teacher education majors involved in Educators Rising at their local high schools but new aspiring teachers were also invited to attend.

This event allowed the attendees to connect with the collegiate chapter of Educators Rising and the Illinois Education Association (IEA.)

Interim Dean of Education Dr. Todd McLoda shared a few words at the event. Also, State Director of Educators Rising and Illinois State Alumni Dr. Lindsay Jensen attended and shared some remarks with the aspiring teachers. Following the speeches were activities and an opportunity for snacks and cake.

“It is beneficial to see all the other people who are committed,” said Appel, “It is important to recognize the support and environment that a student will have at Illinois State in the education program and celebrate that.”
